Some favorites from a new batch of color tests Some favorites from a new batch of color tests
Anyone live in an old house where it’s nearly im Anyone live in an old house where it’s nearly impossible to get rid of mice and so you just end up coexisting somehow? They’ve been on my mind lately and so I thought I’d repost this "collaborative" video from 2016. Dabs of peanut butter on the slip entice biting and scratching- swipe to see the final cup. 20 years ago, I had shared a studio with a vole who would take bites out of leatherhard pots, one cup of which I kept. #animalcollaboration #mouse
Thank you to everyone who made 2022 a very special Thank you to everyone who made 2022 a very special year and supported my studio practice in all kinds of ways. I’m grateful for the exposure and visibility that @craftinamerica and @mainecraftassociation brought and how Maine supported me. The new baby has brought all of us much joy at home. This morning we had family over for ozoni, another marker of time that I love. It brings back many wonderful memories of my aunt Motoko and I strive to put as much care into the small things as she did. I still have a lot to learn! The second image shows how she used to make the little pink egg flowers. Wishing you all a very happy New Year! #ozoni #お雑煮
🎍🎉Happy New Year! Making omochi has always b 🎍🎉Happy New Year! Making omochi has always been part of my life, but this is the first year I’ve tried it myself. My mother got us a fancy mochi maker and Chloe remarked after that it was disappointingly easy, but it was a rite of passage! Since it was so easy, I’ll film again, but this will give you a quick understanding of the process. We’ll be having it in New Year’s ozoni tomorrow morning. I credit my being a potter to this family and cultural tradition! #mochitsuki
The perfect tote for the farmer's market and Clove The perfect tote for the farmer's market and Clover! I made these with @entotensd a while back and they have a few left in blue. The bucket tote's flat bottom is great for things you might want to keep upright like milk. There's a pocket inside and a clip to cinch in the top. Carry it over the shoulder. Made by a small family-run company in Japan. The bottom says "Let's tomodachi!" an endearing nod to Engrish and friendship (tomodachi means friend). Super well-made too! @entotensd will open the store back up for us on Sat, Dec 24 at 9am ET. #tomodachitote

At last! Our gay interracial marriage will soon be At last! Our gay interracial marriage will soon be federally recognized and protected! Seriously, it’s not something I’ve ever taken for granted. When Clarence Thomas speculated that same sex marriages would soon be on the chopping block, a shiver went through my spine and while I don’t normally align with Maine Senator @sensusancollins, she deserves a huge thank you for her leadership on this bipartisan bill. When my parents got married more than 60 years ago, many states still had anti-miscegenation laws on the books. It’s good to know that their marriage and ours is now officially not-criminal and that we will finally have federal rights and protections!
Yes, things have changed tremendously in the US since I started bringing “friends” home, but it’s not like this everywhere. When we were in Japan a few years ago, almost everyone we met, did not understand how we could both be mothers and how there was no father in the picture. The erasure and feeling of invisibility was palpable. It was incredibly difficult because there are so many things I love about Japan.
Can anyone can put us in touch with other gay parents in Tokyo?  Or people who know people? 😉 We’ll be there again this summer and want to feel less alone in having our family seen. The kids are joyful, curious and excited about the world. We want to find a community to rally around us and for us to be able to cheer them on too. It shouldn’t be this hard for anyone who simply wants to love and have a family. Thank you to @chloehorie for being an amazing wife and mother! These lovely pictures were taken by @christinawnek. #respectformarriageact #cloverisstillthecutest
